This Des Plaines kitchen already had a beautiful skylight pouring in natural light. The homeowners wanted a kitchen that made the most of it, with a fresh, classic look and more room to cook and gather.
The original kitchen had raised-panel cabinets, solid surface countertops with an inlaid stripe, and a peninsula with the cooktop built in.
We swapped the peninsula for a large island right under the skylight, with seating for three and plenty of deep drawers. Its rich navy finish stands out against the crisp white painted maple cabinets around the room, and moving the cooktop to the back wall keeps the island open for prep and conversation.
Quartz countertops with soft veining run throughout, paired with a marble backsplash in a lantern pattern that glows under the cabinet lights.
Two sets of clear glass cabinet doors with glass shelves show off glassware and a teapot collection, lit from inside for a soft glow. Light porcelain tile floors finish the space and keep the room feeling airy.
